  1. A sugar bloom occurs on chocolate when moisture interacts with the surface, causing the sugar to crystallize. It appears as a white, powdery coating on the chocolate. I experienced this once when I left a chocolate bar in a humid area. The moisture causes the sugar to dissolve, then recrystallize on the surface, creating the bloom. It doesn’t affect the taste but might change the texture. Prevent it by storing chocolate in a cool, dry place. If chocolate gets a sugar bloom, it’s still safe to eat but might not look as appetizing.
