Mihoyo Sends Private Server Operator To Jail – Genshin Impact 5.0

miHoYo has recently pursued legal action against those operating a private server for Genshin Impact. The primary individuals involved are Yin and Wang. Yin has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison and fined 130,000 renminbi for copyright violations and fraudulent activities. In addition to managing a private server, he misled others by posing as a miHoYo staff member to solicit money. Wang, on the other hand, received an 11-month prison sentence and a 90,000 renminbi fine for similar copyright issues. The case also includes five other individuals. The court has mandated that any illegal gains acquired by the defendants be seized and returned to the state.

  1. I don’t have a problem with private servers as a concept and can understand the utility of self hosting one for testing purposes and playing with mods in fact I’m glad they exist as it means the game can hopefully remain playable even after the official servers are shutdown. The biggest problem with private servers comes when you start monetising it as you’re essentially making money from something you didn’t create.
